Etsy fee and profit calculator
Estimate what is left from an Etsy sale after the listing fee, the transaction fee, and payment processing. The default fees are editable because Etsy fees vary by country. Offsite ads and VAT on fees are not included.
Formula
Fee base = item price × quantity + shipping charged to the buyer Listing fees = listing fee × listing count Transaction fee = fee base × transaction rate Processing fee = fee base × processing rate + fixed processing fee Total Etsy fees = listing fees + transaction fee + processing fee Your costs = unit cost × quantity + shipping you pay Profit = fee base − total Etsy fees − your costs Margin = profit / fee base
Defaults, all editable: listing fee 0.20, transaction fee 6.5%, payment processing 3% plus 0.25. Etsy fees vary by country. The fixed amounts are a common US-dollar starting point.
Worked example
One item sells for $25.00 and the buyer pays $5.00 for shipping, so the fee base is $30.00. With the default fees, the listing is $0.20, the 6.5% transaction fee is $1.95, and processing is $0.90 plus $0.25. Fees total $3.30. The item costs $8.00 and you pay $4.00 to ship it, so profit is $14.70 and the margin is 49%.
FAQ
Which fees are included?
A listing fee, a transaction fee on the item price plus the shipping charged to the buyer, and payment processing as a percent plus a fixed amount. Offsite ads, regulatory operating fees, VAT on fees, and currency conversion are not included. Compare the result with a real order receipt before you treat it as your take-home pay.
Why can I edit the defaults?
The fields start at a listing fee of 0.20, a transaction fee of 6.5%, and payment processing of 3% plus 0.25. Those defaults are editable. They are a common US-dollar starting point, and Etsy fees vary by country. Change any number that does not match the payment settings in your shop, including the fixed fees if your currency is not the US dollar.
Is the listing fee charged on every item?
The default is one listing fee for the calculation. If you renewed several listings, raise the listing count. The fixed processing fee defaults to once per order, not once per item. Quantity multiplies the item price and your unit cost. It does not multiply the listing fee unless you change the listing count.
How is profit calculated?
Profit = item price × quantity + shipping charged − Etsy fees − unit cost × quantity − shipping you pay. Margin divides that profit by what the buyer pays for the item and the shipping. A negative profit means the fees and your costs are larger than the amount the buyer pays.
The result is a planning estimate from the numbers on this page. It is not an invoice, a tax filing, or a marketplace statement.
